The new year is upon us, which gives us an opportunity for 2nd chances and new beginnings. New beginnings definitely start with our home. 2018 brings with it a few gorgeous kitchen trends, which are not only trending, but also timeless. Quartz Counters: In many kitchen designs, quartz and granite are rivaled as the top countertop options. However, quartz surfaces are increasing in popularity and is expected to continue through 2018. It requires minimal upkeep, and yet provides a slight shimmer to the surface.

Extra-Deep Drawers: Over the last couple of years, we have seen a surge in smart storage solutions. In this regard, 2018 will be no different. More and more kitchen designs are incorporating solutions to make storage and kitchen tasks easier and effortless for the end-user. One such solution is the deeper drawer. We will definitely see deeper drawers in 2018, especially close to the cooking range to store the crockery and cooking pots and pans. The deeper drawers will keep the items organized, yet accessible all at the same time.

Increased Use of Wood: Taking a slight turn from the airy, modern kitchen design, a bit of warmth is making a comeback into the kitchen in 2018. Wooden elements such as wooden-looking floors or wooden cabinetry are becoming increasingly popular in the the contemporary kitchen design.  The usage of wood coming back into the is due to its design-friendly aesthetic and the environmentally friendly material.

Fewer Upper Cabinets: In 2018, more and more kitchen designs are opening up with fewer upper cabinets. As a result, there are more open all spaces, leading to two different design trends: more open shelves, and more storage underneath the countertops-which is why there is an increase in smart storage, as mentioned above.

Integrated Appliances/Appliance Garages: Another trend that we are seeing in 2018, is the increase of integrated appliances. Larger appliances such as the refrigerator are placed behind matching kitchen shutters and smaller appliances are stored below the counter in sectioned-off areas of the cabinetry. Due to the fewer upper cabinets and smarter storage solutions being created both above and below the countertop with "appliance garages", where smaller items such as a toaster or a microwave/oven are being placed for efficient kitchen storage.

Two-Toned Cabinets: However, for the kitchens that do have upper cabinets, there is an increase of having two tones in the kitchen rather than one. The monochrome kitchen is going out, and dual-chrome is coming in. Coming into 2018, many kitchen designs will have one color for the wall cabinets and another color for the base cabinets.
