  • 3 Tips to Get Your Wardrobe Winter-Ready

It is that time of the year where we take our winter gear our of storage and place in the accessible areas of our wardrobe. Although the task is tedious, the chill in the air calls for a refreshing change within the wardrobe, which can be completed with a few easy tasks. The tips are given below.

Store the Summer Clothes: If there is limited space, place the summer-only or off-season items in the loft or an unused shelf in the wardrobe. Typically the top shelf is the least-used shelf within a wardrobe. Therefore, it is best to place the off-season items there so they are out of the way, yet still accessible when it is time to change the season again. If the wardrobe has loft storage above the main wardrobe area, place the off-season items over there so they are out of the way for the winter months.

Fold vs. Hanging: Another organizational tactic is to decipher which items should be folded and which should be hung. Large bulky sweaters and sweat shirts can take extensive space if placed on hangers, and usually lose their shape. The best way to store them is by folding them and placing them on shelves or in drawers. When it comes to organizing shelves within a wardrobe, the heavier stacks or piles should be placed on the lower shelves, while the lighter clothing items should be placed on the higher shelves. However, items such as coats are best stored by hanging them. They can be hung in the existing wardrobe or in a different wardrobe, depending on the availability of space.

Filtering through Hangers: To maximize space in the closet, consider space-saving hangers to place all of the necessary items. Deciding the style of pantry can be a challenge in redesigning a kitchen or building a new home. Both walk-in and reach-in pantries have their own pros and cons , and the final decision comes down to storage requirements, organization style, and the amount of space which is allocated. Below are the variables that determine the best style pantry for your kitchen space.

Storage: Walk-in pantries definitely have more storage capacity. They are ideal for the avid cook who wants ceiling-to-floor shelves to keep their cookbooks, ingredients, snacks, and crockery. The walk-in pantries also have more room to store larger cooking appliances. However, due to the size of the walk-in pantry, the storage will be more spread out, and it may take time to find and gather the necessary items. That way, with a reach-in pantry, the storage space is more centralized and accessible, with all items are in one area. Therefore, less time is spent searching through many shelves for various items. Yet, the storage space is limited. It is challenging to fit the larger cooking appliances, and many items transfer to the countertops.

Organization: With walk-in pantries one can get creative with the organization and sort through items as per preference and convenience. However, with more area there is more responsibility. The organization has be me maintained, otherwise it can get extremely untidy and difficult to manage. However, with the limited space in the reach-pantry, it is much easier to keep organized and maintain it without losing track.

Space: Walk-in pantries surely have more space inside, yet they also take up a lot of space within the kitchen. One of the major downsides of the walk-in pantry is the amount of space required to accommodate it within a kitchen design. On the contrary, reach-in pantries do not take up significant space, and are simply more cabinetry with extra shelves and drawers within the kitchen. Nevertheless, due to limited space inside the cabinet, some of the kitchen storage may transfer to the surrounding bench space.

In choosing the reach-in or the walk-in pantry for the kitchen, it boils down to preference and space. With a walk-in pantry, there is more space, more room for organization, but it requires a regular maintenance and one has to see if it is possible within a kitchen design. The reach-in pantry is a more space-friendly solution, yet it is limited to the cabinetry and the number of items that can be stored inside.
