  • All About the Breakfast Bar in the Kitchen

Many of the previous blogs have discussed the idea of adding an informal social space in the kitchen. In countless movies and shows, we've seen people sitting with their morning cup sitting at the kitchen counter. This informal counter space or the breakfast bar is becoming more and more popular in Indian homes. As homes and family sizes grow smaller, the home is becoming a more informal space rather than a formal space. Adding a breakfast bar gives the kitchen a very casual touch, and adds some immediate convenience in the morning hustle 'n' bustle. Below, check out how to get the ideal breakfast bar in your kitchen.

Defined Space in the Kitchen: The first step to starting a breakfast bar is to define the particular space which will be the designated for informal sitting. Depending on the kitchen layout, either it can come in the form of a kitchen island or a counter attached to one side. With a breakfast bar, cabinets and storage can be added to the inner or working side of the kitchen; and the other side can be the social side where there is seating and the counter is at bar height for anyone access.

Fun Stools: Once the space is set, the next step is the seating. Since the counter is at a normal bar height, bar stools are ideal. They are comfortable for sitting at the counter and can be tucked away when not in use. The tucking away gives more moving room in and around the kitchen without running into anything. With stools, one can get extremely creative and have a unique color or design to add some personality.

Natural Light: Keep this part of the kitchen area well-lit at all time. Ensure there is natural lighting and enough pendant lighting for the evening. Since the space is a social area, it should be highlighted with enough lighting to create that welcoming atmosphere within the kitchen.

Legroom: The breakfast bar should comfortable place for people to gather at all times Ensure there is enough legroom to move around and prevent your knees from bumping against the counter top or getting crammed underneath the counter.  Whether it is a quick breakfast or a long meal, the breakfast bar should keep you sitting for a long time.

For your kitchen, consider a breakfast bar for a more casual touch in your home. It is a great place for family members to gather and socialize at any hour of the day. Add this social space and give your home that contemporary touch.

  • Acetech 2015: The Green & White Kitchen

As many of our posts have stated over the past weekend, ModSpace.in participated in Acetech 2015 Delhi in Pragati Maidan. Acetech is the largest exhibition in construction, design, and architecture in Asia, where over 2,000 exhibitors display their products. Over the course of 4 days, ModSpace.in had a stall in the central-most location of the entire exhibition, displaying three kitchen designs, three wardrobe designs, and one entertainment unit. Below, is one of the kitchens that was displayed at Acetech Delhi 2015. In fact, a smaller version of this kitchen was used by the celebrity chefs at Delhi's Palate Fest 2015, and it was an instant hit. For details about the specifics of the Palate Fest Kitchen, you can view them in our previous blog post.

Color & Finish:The first kitchen was a bright green and white kitchen in a laminate finish. Located at the very front of the stall, the kitchen was easily noticeable and drew people towards the stall itself. Elements of white and green were mix/matched in the cabinetry throughout the entire layout, making the kitchen really stand out! Rather than having a solid color on top and a solid color on bottom cabinets, the white and green colors were placed sporadically throughout the kitchen design, creating a color block effect in the kitchen itself.

Layout: The kitchen layout was an island kitchen with cabinetry along the back wall. In fact, only the island of this kitchen was used by celebrity chefs in Delhi's Palate Festival. More details about the Palate Fest Kitchen can viewed in our previous blog. For this exhibition, the layout was given a more practical design with a wall full of kitchen cabinetry. The overall layout spread out the work triangle, with the sink and hob  on the island, and space for a fridge on the other side. This layout is very open, and can allow users to interact with others while working in the kitchen.

The island consisted of cabinetry on one side, and open shelving on the other side. The open shelving is an ideal place to add to kitchen decor, store any dishes, or to display cookbooks. The closed cabinetry was on the side for the user to access any necessary items while using the stove. With plenty of counter space on the island itself, any user is able to spread themselves while using this kitchen. The cabinetry included plenty of shelving space for the user to store their items. The island also included space for placing an oven in the layout itself, without taking up extra floor or counter space. The island, itself, had plenty of key features which are standards in the ModSpace.in Kitchen. The key features of the island are listed below.

    • Two Bottle pull-outs: Located on either side of the hob, the bottle pull-outs consist of two racks, perfect for storing any bottle-related ingredients, including your cooking oils, seasonings, spices, and other ingredients. In fact one bottle pull-out can be for liquid ingredients, while the other can serve as a spice rack!
    • Cutlery Tray: The first drawer below the stove includes a cutlery tray, allowing to organize your cutlery neatly. This will make it easy for you to see and access whichever utensil you need while cooking.
    • Wicker Basket: The wicker basket was also a feature in the Palate Fest Kitchen. It is perfect for storing any vegetables needed for cooking. A user can simply pull out the basket and access any necessary ingredients while using the kitchen hob.

Across the island is more kitchen storage and cabinetry that is running parallel to the island. Backed up against the wall, this section has plenty of storage to keep all necessary items. It has tall unit storage on either side, with plenty of counter space in between. Along the counter, there is plenty of floor and wall storage. The key features of this section of the kitchen are given below.

    • Pantry pull-out: One of the tall units includes a pantry pull-out, which is an extremely space-saving and efficient way of storing all types of items, especially accessible snacks and dry foods.
    • Aventos HK: To break the monotony of conventional cabinets, this ModSpace.in kitchen has Aventos HK right in the middle of the wall cabinetry. Rather than the shutter opening in front of you, Aventos HK opens upward, allowing you to have the shutter out of your way while accessing your items. There is plenty of shelving to store your items.
    • Grain Drawer: The final key feature is a grain drawer, which is a wide and deep drawer, perfect for storing all your grains, such as rice, lentils, or even bread.

This ModSpace.in kitchen provides plenty of storage for all necessary items. The storage-friendly solutions are designed for the user to organize their items in the most efficient way, without taking any extra floor or counter space. Like this kitchen? Give us a call! 91 7042 335104

  • Our Palate Fest Kitchen

As seen in many of our social media posts, ModSpace.in was the official kitchen partner for
Delhi Palate Fest 2015, which took place in Nehru Park, New Delhi from Nov 28-30, 2015. As the official kitchen partners of the event, we provided the demo room kitchen for all the celebrity chefs to use for the event's masterclasses. The kitchen was greatly appreciated, complementing the white and green color scheme perfectly. The details of the Palate Fest kitchen are given below.

Layout: This kitchen was a long, island kitchen, with open shelving in the front, and cabinets in the back. The island created a long working platform for the chef to spread their work easily, without running short of room, or leading to the chef turning their back to the audience. With this layout, the chef was able to communicate and interact with their audience by moving across the counter easily and quickly. At certain times, audience members would come up and taste the chef's freshly cooked food. The island layout allowed for the chef and the audience to have easy access to the food items placed in front of them.

Colors: The color combination of this kitchen was chosen to complement the ModSpace.in colors of black, white, and green. Hence, the colors for this kitchen were lime and snow white. With a white and green counter, open shelves in front were green, with a white backdrop. the color combination was looking exceptionally striking against the green carpet below, and the white backdrop placed behind the kitchen. The shelves were decorated with colorful plates and bowls to make the green shelves stand out. On the other side of the kitchen, there was a mix of white and green cabinets, adding an a unique element to the entire appearance. Instead of having a single color to all the cabinetry, the double colors made the kitchen really stand out!

Finish: The finish for the kitchen at Palate Fest was laminate in a matt appearance. With the countless lights and cameras, the matt finish was easy on the eyes for both the chef and the audience. With multiple chefs using the kitchen one after the other, the laminate finish allowed for quick and easily cleaning between the chefs' masterclasses. With a quick wipe down of the surfaces, the kitchen was ready to use and good as new for the next chef.

Key Feature: One key feature of this kitchen was the wicker basket. At the back of the kitchen, one of the cabinets had a pull-out wicker basket, which is ideal for storing any vegetables or fruits needed for cooking. Located in the cabinet right next to the hob, the wicker basket was easy to pull out to access any necessary ingredients within easy reach. IMG_2442 IMG_2443

  • The Kitchen Island

All of us keep seeking extra space in a kitchen. Either we need extra storage or more counter space within the kitchen. One way to solve this problem is to consider adding a kitchen island. Islands are perfect for kitchens with a large amount of floor space to allow for free movement around the kitchen. For those considering a kitchen island, take a look at the benefits!

Increased Efficiency: In a large kitchen, an island allows an individual to move back and forth between different work spaces without too much difficulty.  Many island-users dedicate a specific task to the space, such as a designated cooking or cleaning zone. Some users simply add another sink, while others choose to add a hob.

Extra Storage: A kitchen island can easily hold extra cabinets and shelves to store your items. Oftentimes, the island is used to store the free-moving, lose appliances

Informal Seating: An island allows for extra seating. Whether you have a traditional island or not, extra stools can be added for your guests while entertaining. The seating can also be used to keep an eye on any little ones. While you're working in the kitchen, you can easily keep the young ones close by having them sit at the island!

More Workspace: A kitchen island allows for extra counter space. If you need extra workspace or another sink, an island is the way to go.
